It feels like July has simply flown by. While I’ve been quiet here on the Written Vixen for the better part of July, a lot of that has to do with the fact that I’ve taken opportunity provided by one of NaNoWrimo’s Camps to focus on one of my writing projects, rather than letting myself get sidetracked with Shiny New Project Syndrome.
With July coming to a close, it’s definitely time to look up from the ink smears and my notes and get back into the swing of things here. That should also mean finishing up that series on plot I’ve been working on (ideally I want that finished up by November). Prompts should stay on their usual schedule, coming out about once a week, but I’d like to start putting out short stories a little more regularly. There’s no promises on those however.
So what was I working on this July? Novelettes, actually. I’d been craving a superhero story after binge watching a lot of old X-Men and the new Miraculous Ladybug animated shows, but couldn’t find one to satisfy.
If there is a book that you want to read, but it hasn’t been written yet, then you must write it.
Toni Morrison
The solution is there, of course. Since I couldn’t find something already written that suited what I was looking for, I’d just have to write it myself.
At the moment everything is under the working title ‘Hero Stones’ and because they are novelettes (the largest so far is just shy of thirteen thousand words) I’m likely to self-publish them. That means a lot more research and work before the next update though.
What has July been like for you all?
